Its what usually happens but it is usually anets fault:
Anet sells the Keys->Then doesnt care what happens to them->Anet gets abit more money->Still doesnt care about playerbase->PcGamer doesnt really care either->Tards get the keys cos there too poor to buy the magazine so they just memorize them->Anet think 'What the heck lets sell some more'.
Good Game. Recommendation: MMO's with no monthly fees will do anything for extra money without giving a s***.

hrmz... tricky.

I think Wal-Mart probably UNsealed the mag. Borders did too. And when I tried to explain to the sales people that they rendered the magazine worthless unsealing it, they looked at me with blank looks. One of them got it though when I thumbed through and showed him the key and explained that was why the magazine was worth $10.

And don't YOU have a vivid and active imagination. Imagining the truth, albeit way off the mark, is certainly less work than finding out what it really is... isn't it?

Walmart didn't unseal it. All the magazines were shipped unsealed. This is old news.

Really, a magazine publisher with several years of experience with codes and CDs mailed a magazine w/code unsealed?
So hard to imagine. I don't know whether to lmao or cry.
Well thanks anyway for the heads up.

I had a friend in the USA buy me a mag and give me the code, then they mailed me the magazone. My code also did not work, so I sent an email to the magazine, they apologised and gave me a new code - so , whats the big deal here? Send them an emial - the address is on the page the code is on in the magazine, and they will give you a new code. Maybe they have learned something and will seal their mags next time they have something like this in them.

Anyway... I get home and type this sucker in and BLAM IN UR FACE... Key is in use. Well this sucks, I'm thinking. The error message directed me to contact technical support, something I normally never do... maybe because 99% of my experiences with technical support were about as productive as having a conversation with a RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing brick wall.
Long story short... A-net told me there was "Nothing they could do" and told me to go talk to PC Gamer. What do you think PC Gamer told me? Exactly - "Go talk to ArenaNet, it's not our problem."
Is this how ArenaNet treats customers of over 2 years? I've never seen a company make so little effort to help a customer with a problem in my life. Hell, I've gotten better tech support from my phone company... and half of them don't speak english.
Thanks ArenaNet. All I can say is that I will think twice before buying another one of your products.

I live in Australia and the special issue of PCgamer GW EotN was not available here till two weeks ago.
I bought the magazine and I had the problem with the code too it being not correct.
I sent an email to the PCgamer/customer and the very next day they sent me a new working code. I'm very happy of the way they acted: Fast and politely.
So they still give codes to the people even after so many days from the pubblications of the special issue.

It because with any code, a key gen can be made, or at worst guessed. If you have one code, often changing one or two letters/numbers results in another valid code. But thats why you always look at the magazine for these things first. Or walk into Barnes n' Noble the day after they come out and swipe the code like everyone else. :-p
But stinks you wasted ten dollars on a bad magazine IMO.

Well I think with a limited time supply, or even a online thing like GW would they keygen work? I always figured the keygen worked because they could produce more games later and the key would still work. But with something online all they need to do is just add new keys to the Database as they are sent out.

I am so very sorry that this happened to you. To be honest, the first thing I asked when I learned about this program was, "Will the magazine all be wrapped this time?" (Thinking "Please!? Pretty Please!?") I learned that it was not possible for every magazine to be sealed, but that PC Gamer assumed responsibility for the distribution of replacement keys for those who may have a disappointment like you did, Domino, and we (ArenaNet) would provide them the keys to do so.
I don't know the verification process that they use. I do know that ArenaNet did provide the keys to PC Gamer to handle such requests, and they should not be sending you back to our support team. If you have submitted a support ticket, could you PM me the Incident Number so I can research this? I'm particularly interested in any correspondence you had with PC Gamer on this. (You can send an email to [email protected] if you wish. Please indicate in your email that I asked you to write me, so that it's forwarded directly to me.)
We want to make this right for you, and again, I am very sorry for the problem!

Forgive me, but this is quite completely inaccurate. We do not sell the keys. It costs us to run these promotions, because the magazines charge us to print the unique keys. It's considered a valuable marketing effort, and we're happy to partner with the publications to conduct this key giveaways, but please do understand, ArenaNet does not make a profit from them. That is the honest truth.

Although Gaile's interest is very understanding and helpful, it doesn't have to be this hard.
Did everyone but HawkofStorms miss this post?

I had the exact same problem as the OP with my Asura mini, and got a response from the included email address almost immediately, with my new working code.
It couldn't have been easier.

I went to the store and saw they were all unwrapped and actually thought to myself 'hmm, that's dumb'. Then, I went to pcgamer website and got a phone number. Then I called and ordered one. Wow, it worked first try.

that's why i didn't buy that magazine. it's common sense that you have to put a cover on those. i can just see some dumbass sitting in the store writing down a key. anyway, yea anets support is absolutely terrible, they pretty much use plaync for their support and plaync sucks. they pretty much want you to make an entirely new acc every time you need a question answered. and they don't even have all their error messages in the faq. i found that the best support resource is probly gwg forum. i have the feeling anet is having a financial squeeze. they're releasing a bunch of random stuff that you can buy and their support sucks. of course some of that could have to do with the holidays. also, i think they have been recycling weekend events recently. it makes sense if you consider the fact that there is no monthly fee.
PS: wow gray, ud think the magazines would be jumping over one another to get your keys, i bought the asura magazine just for the asura, i bet half the people that bought the magazine did.

I was thinking the same thing minus the hug. It's not ANET's fault that PC Gamer doesn't have the common sense to wrap the magazine.

Lol i feel somewhat left out because the UK didn't get that magazine for the free destroyer :-( We got the stupid random prize give-away which turned out not to be for every user -_-
Though when they were giving away the ceratadons from the online mag, i had problems with used keys. I emailed them the problem and within 2 days they got back to me with a nice fresh key ^_^ If ever in doubt email the magazine not the company who gives the codes first.
Having unwrapped magazines does suck, I don't understand why they cant wrap them all instead of only some lol its like a short cut to save money, but in the end i bet it caused them more hassle with complaints about keys being robbed.
Oh and phoo, you don't need to make a new account every time lol just put in the game you play and the ingame name and that's it. that's all i ever do.
I agree with you though I think Anet's support should be better, i know they get thousands of reports a day so i can understand the pressure. I just think it can be handled better than it is, because so far all the problems my guildie's and i have encountered get the same reply of sorry it cant be helped...

*sigh*
All you need to do to get a working key is contact PCGAMER. The info on what to do etc is on the page with the code I believe. I know this has been posted before but I guess it's....being overlooked
This IS NOT an issue with Anet so lets put that particular bash stick away and back away slowly, k? This is an issue with PCGamer who should've wrapped the mags. It is also an issue with the asshats who stole the codes from the mags and then left them on the shelf for some poor shmo to buy.
Contact the email provided in the mag. Everyone I've seen thus far who has followed the simple directions printed there has gotten a new code. Good luck
